Autozone carries Bilstein Shocks now and they are only 4 bucks higher and you walk out the door with them. Expect to pay around 69 bucks for them. There are only 2 types of shocks listed for an Excursion, these and performance. Performance shocks are listed as Elderbrock shocks and are 75 bucks each. Actually 3 types are listed but I never even consider the $31 light duty shocks for a vehicle this size. Performance usually means that the shock is stiffer and cuts into ride quality. Andy
I too replaced my stock shocks with Bilstein was not impressed. I have an 03' 6.0 2WD, replaced at about 60k. I had however added airbags / radius rods / anti-sway before changing shocks.....
I would suggest any adjustable shock. They will cost more but you can change the ride as needed. I am currently using ProComp MX 6 adjustables and I am very happy with them. I heard rancho has a nice set of adjustables also.
Man, they are pricey but I have the Fox remote res. shocks and they are perfect. Not to soft and not to rough.
Just for the record I had Edelbrocks IAS (they were mentioned, though I don't know if they have an app. for the Ex) and they were a waste of money. Plus after a year and about 8k miles they were done. Never again.
I too purchased the Gabriels, but the gas mono version, max controls I think, and again for my needs they are fine, 30,000 mi later and they are still good.
I've tried Ranchos and Bilsteins and they were slightly better than stock. I put Fabtech Dirt Logic Shocks on with my 6" Fabtech lift, and they are incredible!
