Mystery Paint Code
Long time reader of the forum, first time posting.
Just picked up an original '55 F-100 Std Cab to go with my 1955 Custom Cab. The VIN data plate in the glove box shows a "Y" for the paint code. None of my Ford reference material shows a "Y" code used for any 53-56 F-100.
The original color still on the truck is a turquoise/aqua. The truck was build in Richmond.
Anybody have any ideas?
Take a look at the car color codes also. There is a "Y" code for '55 cars listed as "Mountain Green" and I think the number is 41804, but the 8 may be a 3 as my color chart scan is not the greatest.
My '56 has a paint code of "W" which is also a car color. I looked for quite awhile before an older guy at the paint store told me to look at the car colors as late in the production year they would paint them with anything that was left over and may even used the next year's color.
Oh, and "pics please!"
Good Luck!

If you would like a copy of the 54-55 color charts, send me your e-mail and I will forward them in the morning. These include both the cars and trucks. As Dick said, the codes on Earl's World are for trucks only.
Good Luck!
