Idler Bearing?
My guess is he meant idler pulley......They do sometimes go bad. I'd guess he's working on commission too.........
......it's called "upgrade selling" and sometimes is VERY good......can remind you to get the dielectric grease for your plugs on a tune-up.....or the disc brake lube to keep them from squealing....little things we forget. If the pulley isn't loud and/or bound up......Thank him and keep your money for something else....although it is not a bad thing to do.....it's just extra work if you don't need it.......in my opinion anyway
Good Luck

Remove your belt and spin your idler pulley by hand. If I remember correctly it should be near your alternator, and there will be nothing benefitting from it spinning (as opposed to the alternator or water pump pulley, for example), it is simply there to assure that the belt gets routed correctly. If it spins pretty freely with no binding or gritty feeling then it should be good to go. If it does feel as though it needs to be replaced, its a very easy replacement. Just get a wrench on the nut on the end of it and it'll pop right off. Throw the new one on and you're ready to go.

It's held on with one allen sholder bolt.
