I have a 97 351 w with no maf in my truck. It starts great when cold, like in the moring every day, but once it is warmed up and parked for more then 5 minutes, it is hard to start. It will turn for around 2 to 3 seconds then finally studder and fire up when I touch the gas pedal. If I do not touch the gas, it will just keep turning with no starting. If I turn it off, it will start no prob if I start it again under 5 minutes. Once it is running, it runs great.
Does anybody have any idea what might be causing this? Will it throw a code for this? Thanks in advance.
I don't know the last time it uas tuned up as it was just swaped into my truck. I had a quick chat with one of the local mechs and he said that it is running rich, which would make sense as I can smell fuel when it does fire up. I was thinking of throwing some new plugs and wires on it as well. I will try to get the codes as soon as I can. That is a great website.
Where is the fuel pressure regulator on this engine? Does it matter when I pull it, just after I turn it off or at any time? Thanks for the help.
As for the new cap, wires, ect, the engine was pulled from a F350 and put in my truck as is. It is a rebuilt engine that has 40,000 kms on it and the truck was turned in due to the tranny going and the mine company that owner the truck wanted a diesel. So basicly it got ripped out of that truck and placed into mine, with the F350 being the donor rig for the wiring ect.
