Ignition problem

Hi, I am new to the post. I have a 1979 F-150 4x4, 351M engine. I noticed a few days ago that the distributor was cracked so I marked it, popped it out and replaced it with OEM part. My problem is now it wont run now but ran before although very rough, it is getting fire from ignition switch to coil and from coil to plugs and it is backfiring. I think that somehow or another I have caused it to jump time and do not know how to fix it from there. Any suggestions ?? Thanks

You may have put the wires on the cap in the wrong order.

Here's the Firing Order.

Like Mil1ion said, 1st check the firing order and make sure you got the plug wires right. If it still won't start, I would bring the motor to TDC on the compression stroke, and pull the cap to make sure that the rotor is pointed at the number 1 terminal on the cap. I'm assuming you didn't crank or turn the motor with the distributor removed?

Thanks

Thanks Mil1ion, I reinstalled the distributor again and changed the wiring order and she came to life.
