Whats up yall I have a 89 f250hd w/ a 460efi and a c6 trans the truck has 130k on er well just the other day the wife an I were driving and we heard a big pop and my exhaust sounded like normal unlike before this pop it was pretty much blowing air from an exhaust leak but now shes ticking and also rod knock it started last friday and by saturday it was really annoying so yesterday we were looking her over and figured out it was the lifters ticking and then discovered the rod knock you can hear it when you just start her up but after she gets really warmed up its LOUD and she smells bad of coolant when I got home last night how can this happen so fast it was within a day its not like I beat on er I only have a 3min drive to work any insight would be appreciated.... Also im about to pull this motor out and put a 7.3idi w/ a c6 trans built by huckstorf diesel if my buddy gets back to me soon
You could drive it, and it might survive, and it also could pitch a rod through the bottom of the oil pan, like my old 360 did... then you not only have to walk, but get it hauled home somehow...
I'd err on the side of caution and park the truck. From my own experience, I've had vehicles that acted up in some fashion, make odd noises, etc., that I reasoned would last until I was able to get them properly fixed. From that reasoning, it's a short leap to thinking along the lines of "one more trip won't hurt it", or "if it has'nt let go by now, I'll be all right this time." But while you're ignoring that wobble or that noise, you usually end up with more trouble than you started out with, since everytime you drive the thing, even just a quick trip down the road, is causing more and more damage. And like fellro said above, it generally ends up with a walk and a tow, and that's never really good.
