Which header would fit on a 390 that is using a 361 FT engine mounts that mount on the rearer mount holes on the block? I'm running into problems in which the ones i have are hitting the engine mount. Any advice or suggestions for headers would be appreciated. I can go with shorty headers if they'll fit.
That is a tough question. They do sell fender exit headers but that requires cutting your fender to use them. You may end up having to call some of the header makers with diamentions of where your mounts are in comparison to the exhaust ports. ie... how far below under what ports and how wide the mounts are. I haven't seen a pair of shorty headers for an FE but that doesn't mean they aren't out there.
Who makes the fender exit headers? I'll get the dimensions and call soem more places but half the people i've called have been to concerned about what its in rather then it just fitting the engine. Thanks, if you can link me up to the fender exit headers, or tell me who makes them it'll be a big help.
Klatt I have a 57 F600 with a 390 and headers my engine mounts at the
bellhousing and at the timing cover. The headers that I'm using are designed for
a 66 pickup with a FE. They fit OK just tight around the starter and steering box.
Thanks, but my problem is the engine uses the side bosses for the engine mounts with the crossmember from Transdept. otherwise the headers i had would work. I'm thinking fender exit might be one of the options i'm narrowing it down to, if i didn't have the engine mounts on the back bosses it wouldn't be as big of a deal but as it sits i'll have to work to get them to drop down about the 3rd cylinder back range.
