PCM replacement

Hi friends,my '96 150 supercab needs a new pcm.I brought it to a Quality Care near home Monday because it kept getting 02 codes that I couldnt track down even after replacing the sensors.250 dollars later the CEL still came on two miles later and I went right back and bitched about the incompetence of diagnostics there. They finally used BOB and say its the PCM which is what I suspected, or feared I should say. However, it is warr. for 8 yrs. or 80,000 miles which is good for me but theyve had the truck all week and I might not get it back Friday because it takes 3 to 5 days to get the part from the vendor.Something dosent sound right.Should it take that long with todays overnighters?Does the PCM have to be programmed before or after installation?Does it have to be programmed at all and who does it.How long should it take to install after the part arrives?.These people have no sense of urgency whatsoever and evade these same questions Im asking you.I asked if I could take the truck and return when the part arrives they said no.What gives?

>Should it take that long with todays overnighters?

Three to five days is right on par for shipping. If you want overnight shipping you general have to pay three times more for the shipping.

They generally get it programmed but that doesn't mean they won't update it if there are TSB's.

>How long should it take to install after the part
>arrives?

An hour.

>These people have no sense of urgency whatsoever

Look at it this way, they are obiligated to repair it, they aren't obligated to pay three times more for shipping to get it overnight. Generally with anyone you want overnight, request it and pay the difference.

The 96 and older truck is not a 5 minute job to replace the computer. The tech probably doesn't want to spend an extra hour of time on it putting the computer back in only to have to take it out and put it back again when the part arrives. Remember, he gets paid a flat rate from Ford, no matter how much time he spends on it. There's also the possibility that your computer is no longer at their shop, perhaps Ford has a core on it?
