302 to 351w and 4spd to 5 spd
My truck has a 302 with a 4 speed "granny tranny" and im replaceing it with a 351 windsor thats bored 60 over. I am going to put a different cam in it, a good carb, and clean it up and rebuild it.
Does anyone know around what the cam specs are on a 351 windsor hi-po and if I could install a t-5 transmission out of a mustang in it. I already know ill need to put a different shifter on it but I was wandering if it would work for my truck.

Make it a later T-5, say out of a Mustang 85 or later. They went to the world class T-5 which could handle 310 ft-lbs of torque.
Just for sake of mind probably, but it sounds like you are building a healthy engine and well, it's gonna have to be tested

Shifter will be too far back, T5 will be marginal at best behind a 351.

There are ways to use a Chev S10 tailshaft housing to get the shifter farther forward, but again, you are up against the limit of the T5.
How are you going to use the truck? A ZF 5 speed with the low first gear and OD will work fine for "truck" use like towing and off road work.
