Chip install ?
I'm going to install my new Diablo chip in my 2001 F150, 5.4L. I've read the directions(twice) and last night I checked out the ECU location. Looks to be easily accessible from the interior, even without the kick panel removed. I did remove the kick panel and it didn't seem to open the workspace up alot.(but I'll probably still remove it because it's so easy )
The specific question is: Do I need to remove the battery or battery cover to access the computer from the engine compartment? I was looking at it at night and the ECU looked pretty well tucked under things.

You don't need to take the battery out, but for me it was a lot easier to go ahead and do it. Not much room in there for your hands, unless you can get a little kid to do it.

Thanks. I did end up taking the battery out. It only takes a couple of minutes and gives you room to work. I think the hardest part was getting the coating off the connector. Not really hard but I wanted to be sure I didn't have to pull the ECU out to check the connections.
