hopping rear end

Ok, so i put the stock tires back on and wanted to go out and roast some tires with the new ARB airlocker installed. Keep in mind I have traction bars on the rear end. ANyway, I start off in first holding the brake pretty good, the tires will break loose, but they hop really bad. I think its only when I'm holding the brake. . . . but thats kinda the point. But I don't see everybody else having the problem. I'm probably going to linelock the rear brake anyway, but I want some other experienced persons thoughts on whats doing this. Thanks.

what kind of trac bars? ladder style or a single bar?. im guessing single?

also, although not typical w/ a stock size tire you can get wheel hop from the tire not the suspension. (but in this case i bet not as its a stock tire. i see this w/ rockcrawling tires 40"+ running low air pressure)

single

yeah for now its a single. . . but I still can't see why its hopping. I guess it would help to have somebody outside watching the axle to see how much it moves.

A ladder bar is more of a better thing to control axle wrap. The way i see it. without a triangulated system with another member coming from the top of the pumpkin, the two bars will only locate the axle under the truck. Under extreme torque multiplication, such as in a low gear, the axle will want to rotate the pinion up, and with bars under the axle it stretches the arch out in the front half of the leaf springs, and compresses the back half. The best way i think to control axle wrap is a set of bars that is welded or clamped around the axle tube, with a top and bottom mount, that way the axle will not rotate up.

ladder bars

I know what causes the axle wrap and i totally understand the geometry in a ladder bar vs a traction bar. . . however my concern is that something is causing my setup in particular to be worse than others. My buddies truck(exact truck as mine but with the 6l) does not do this. His Rolls out smooth. I'm wondering if its a rear brake issue or not.

factory lift blocks

i'm also thinking that I might need to switch my factory lift blocks around to point the axle down a little. right now the driveshaft is almost perfectly inline with the pinion gear. Since the blocks are tapered it will change the angle. Does anybody think this will help, by keeping the "wrapping torque" in one direction? Thanks.

ding, ding, ding.

thats why i assumed it was a single. although a single will help w/ wrap it wont entirely eliminate it. as the spring can still move as stated above. looks like its time for a ladder bar setup.

skipping

Well with a closer examination of the marks left on the ground. . . they are staggered. Both sides have a two foot mark followed by a 6 inch gap or so. . . but when the right tire is in gap. . . the left tires is centered on the two foot mark and visa versa. So it looks like to me that power is being transfered from one tire to the other extremely fast. But there is overlap on the marks. ARB thinks that the locker is not fully engaged. I think there was a problem with the locker solinoid. With i activate the locker with the line unhooked. . . it will leak out a burst of air and stop. the pump will come quickly back kup to pressure and stop. Its supposed to continue to leak air and pump untill pressure is built. This happened multiple times and then started to work properly. so tomorrow will tell if that was the problem. ARB is overnighting me new solinoids seals and bolts to reassemble the locker. Very nice guys. well I'll update tomorrow.
