I have a 1971 F-100 and I drove to the store this morning and when I got back the truck would not turn off. I finally had to pull the coil wire off to shut it down. Now I can't get it to start. Any ideas on the problem?
I agree, but it sounds like the switch contacts have welded shut,so I would try to by-bass the ignition switch and see what happens, just a guess, what do I know?
I'm thinking it's the ignition switch (positional thing) as they don't last forever.
When I mentioned coil wire..I meant to check that for power running thru it when key is in OFF position.
You see...the ignition switch is just a positional thing that diverts power from the battery to different circuits..one being the ignition system ( The coil )
I had the exact same problem on my 69. If you pulled the wire on the solenoid it would stop the engine. The trouble was in the alternator back feeding the ignition side of the solenoid. I had to have the alternator rebuilt and stator replaced.
