Ill apologize in advance if this is a simple question, but i do not know much about tires and sizes. First when i buy tires they are like 265/70/16 or somethin like that. But alot of people talk about 30 inch and 33 and stuff liek that. How do you tell how big the 265 and whatnot are? I hope that makes sense.
My next question is about a tire and wheel combo for sale in my area. The tires are 305/70/16. I reall just want the wheels but the tires have half tread so im hoping i can get some use out of them. How big is 305? I run 265s right now. Will 305s even fit on my 89 f-250? also how much will the bigger tires effect the performance of my truck. Its stock with 4.10 gearing
The first number is the width of the tire in milimeters, so to convert that to inches just divide my 25.4 to get inches. The second number is a percentage of how tall the sidewall is to the width of the tire. So, to get the height of the tire muliply the width my the second number, multiply by 2 and then add the size of the rim. So a 265/70/16 is a 30.5 x 10.5., and a 305/70/16 is a 33 x 12.5. These tires will easily fit on your truck, they might rub a little if you cut your tires all of the way or do some heavy offroading, but overall I think they will fit just fine. Your performance won't be affected to much being you have some 4.10's. I put 35's on the back of my F150 302 4speed 4.10, and it didn't affect my performance very much at all. The only thing you will have to worry about is speeding, since your speedo will be off by about 5 miles an hour or so.
