6637 Mod/Installation?
02, 7.3 Super Duty
So how do you buy and install the 6637? I keep hearing a lot of folks talk about them but it does not look like a standard install. Basically, I would like to discard the stock box and go with the 6637 but would like to kow what's involved first? Are there other parts (ducting) that I would have to purchase at the time I buy the filter?

www.fleetfilter.com look up a 46637. get a short (3"-4") piece of 4" exhaust pipe and rmove the top of the stock air box. Use the piece of exhaust to connect the tube to the filter and lay it in the bottom of the stock air box. Or you can remove the air box and fabricate a battery tray then just let the filter lay behind the battery and zip tie the IAT sensor from the air box to the master cylinder.

I also purchase most of my filters from fleetfilter.com. Here is a pic of how I installed the Kwik filter on my 02. The only part other than the filter I purchased was a contant torque clamp large enough to clamp the filter to the 4" exhaust. I had some scrap left over from my MBRP installation that I used for the intake-to-filter connection. You can check my web pages on how SpringerPop suggested to mount the Filterminder to the end of the 6637.

Ive got an 02 also and when i did my 6637 mod i cut out part of the bottom filter tray. Otherwise the filter sat up about an inch too high and made the hood hard to close. Others on here didnt have to cut . I just didnt want to remove the whole bottom section of the filter box. Hope this helps. If youre gonna do the ccv mod right away youll need 2 pieces of 4" about 3-1/2" long -SS. Good Luck.

Actually this is an older pic as I am now running an AIS system. I think I had just finished cleaning the engine bay and installed the filterminder in this pic. Even the batteries have been changed. This pic shows the original Motocraft battery with the hydrometer 'eye'. The new Ford batteries I bought last year don't have them. Believe me, It's quite a bit dustier now and ready for another cleaning.

Filter minder question?
Guzzle - I like the way you mounted the filter minder in the end of the filter . I was just curious if this would get a true sense of the filter- I was thinking it would have to be on the turbo side of the filter? I dont know how this part senses flow. can you explain to me as I was thinking about tapping into the short piece of exhaust pipe that I used for a connector but your way is definately easier. Thanks, Bill Also thanks for your great pictures in your site. You give guys like me the ability to diy with pics to help out greatly!!!

SpringerPop is the member that came up with the idea of mounting the filterminder on the end of the filter.
You do not want to mount it in the intake as the airflow going across the sensor opening will cause the FilterMinder to trip prematurely. There have been a few that tried to mount it in the intake hose and found out the hard way then had to figure out how to patch the hole.
The Filterminder simply measures vacuum and by placing it in the end of the filter there will not be much air movement there to create a venturi effect to cause a problem.
