front end noise
i have an 86 f-150 302 efi and the front end makes a clanking noise when i go over bumps. i took the wheel off and looked around and shook stuff. the only thing i noticed was that where the spindle bolts to the axle the bottom had some play in it. is that normal or should that be tight? not sure if thats it but its the only thing i saw. i have recently changed the wheel bearings and they are all still good, so i know that not the problem, but didnt know what else it could be. thanks alot, wes

There should be no play in anything on the frontend. That play sounds like a lower balljoint, but I doubt it is making the noise(put it on the list of things to do). Common things that make clanking noises are the lockout hubs on a 4wd, and the brake calipers or the brake pads clanking around.
Hold the brake pedal lightly as you go over a bump and see if the clanking goes away.
