Well I have not had much time to work on my Bronco, but I did do one thing. But first I don't think I mentioned that the engine has a Edelbrock Performer dual plane manifold, so here’s the deal. I started the truck and pulled one wire at a time as I said earlier #8 and 5 are dead and so are 2 and 4 all on the low side of the manifold. Could it be possible that I have valve stuck open on number eight as I do hear a noise coming from I think #8 cylinder.
My plan is to work on it a bit this weekend, stand by for the rest of the story.
I had a similar problem, but it really wasn't at I dle ( I don't remeber wich ones) u can pull 2 wires and notice no difference what so ever........If u have header let the motor warm up a bit then use some old oil and place it on each header tube if they don't burn off it's not firing...........just a hint.......................
Ok I think I found the problem. Remember I said it had an Edelbrock Performer dual plane manifold and an Edel-broke carburetor, I also found that I had four cylinders that were for the most part dead. Well I checked the compression again and it has improved sense I purchased the truck last fall (it had been setting for the better part of ten years) low 120 high 130, ok compression good. The plugs out of #2,3,5,8 were saturated with fuel and the ones out of #1,4,6,7 were just black with soot. I reinstalled the plugs and fired the truck back up, pumping the throttle to keep the rig running it back fired and then started running just fine again, weird. It must be carburation, I take it out for a test drive and it's working fine about three miles later wham! it starts running bad again. I nurse it home again (low range up the hill from town) pull it into the shop and pull the top off of the carburetor off the right side has fuel and the left is almost empty. The left side needle was stuck, it had what looked like black paint on the seat. I re-cleaned both needles and seats and it has worked fine for the last couple of days.
What is strange is that the cylinders that seemed dead are the ones that had fuel.
I have had more then one person tell me to try a Holly carburetor but I didn't really want to buy on just to try.
Thanks for all of the help you guys have given me on this problem.
