As I was doing a compression check on my 1970 F100 with a 360 engine with all the plugs removed there is a small amount of gas spraying out of the cyclinder on the drivers side closest to the fire wall. The reason for the compresion test was because the truck wouldn't start but would backfire through the carb. The last time it did run it acted like it had no power. The compression test was about 120 all the way through.. Any help would be appreciated the sooner the better. I posted this the day before yesterday but I can't find the post anywhere. If I'm doing this wrong I would appreciate it if someone would let me know what I am doing wrong.. Thanks kindly.. Bob

usually when it back fires through the carb/throttle body it means its out of timing.

The truck has jumped time, and about your only resource is replacing the chain and gears.

I understand the timing problem can cause backfiring but what about the gas spray from the cyclinder?? Thanks...Bob

gas spray from the cylinder? i think u just need to try timing, i understand ur thinking. but from experience (only being 15, but still) i think its ur timing. i had the same problem on my other truck (62 F-350 300 six) and it was the timing.

No problem then, I just thought perhaps gas spraying out of the cycliner was the cause of the backfiring through the carb. I've never had gas spray out of the cyclinder while testing the compression.. Thanks
