Rain is finding its way into the drivers side of my 97 F150. the water seems to drop from under the dash to the floor, but not before finding its way into a electronic module. when this module gets wet the speedometer, odometer and windshield wippers quit working. The overdrive light on the shifter (automatic) will flash and the check engine light will come on. after stopping/turning the key off and removing the truck the engine will turn over, but so far the truck has not fired/started on it's on, park light will come on with the switch off, the heater blower fan will work with the key removed. also the cab will sound like a arcade with all of the relays and buzzer turning on and off. after the module dries out every thing returns to normal, but not before running down the battery. The water leak entry is unknown. I've taken the garden hose and sprayed water over the windshield, both doors, under the hood on the fire wall, and the fresh air grill below the windshield. Water appears to drain properly, even the left and right drain holes for the fresh air grills. no water was found in the truck, but let it rain and here we go again. Any one have any ideas how the water is getting in.
I've seen lots of these. Get the windshield resealed. Usually you have to replace the fuse box and the GEM module after they get wet or they will corrode inside and cause problems.
OK, now how common is this problem? My wifes '01 Expy does the EXACT same thing but my '01 F150 doesn't. The dealer says he's seen only one other Expy leak like mine and had the windshield resealed but isn't sure it fixed it. Just this morning, my wife's truck had a wet floor mat after sitting in a pouring rain for 2 hours. I looked under the dash and could see where it was running down the cowl up high. Due to lack of time, I didn't investigate it further. At least now I have a spot to look at. I don't think it's the windshield either.
