my motor is making some funny noise. and its only when i step on the gas. it sounds like the lifters are not getting any oil. but i had it changed recently. iv always used the same oil. mobil 1 5w20 w/ mobil 1 extended life filter. i can here the exhust sound, and the note is off only when i here the engine making a tapping noise. it doesnt happen at idle, or reg crusing speed, only when i give it some gas.
i hope it will go away, but i have a feeling its not going to. the motor is at less than 48,000 miles right now. and always serviced.
if you think you know the answer to the problem please let me know!!!
its a 2000 lightning, iv tried every fluid and it still makes noise.
it didnt start until after an oil change, they put in 5w20, and the dealership told me no it takes 5w30, i dont see a huge differance but i changed it again (another $88 gone)
whats weird is when the motor is cold theres no noise at all, when its warm i can here it ticking away, and it gets louder right when it shifts gears. no its not the tranny because it makes the noise when i hit the gas in park.
i had the same sound happen to me when i had a dodge stratus, the oil was changed, less that 100 miles later ticking formed, the 1 week later when it got really loud the motor blew up.
i dont want this to happen to me again. i dont have the money for a new motor right now.
so if you think you know what it is like a valve adjustment or something that isnt taking the whole motor out and apart, please let me know.
it IS getting louder!!!!! and i feel i dont have a lot of time......

I had same problem with my 98 and end result was hydrolic timing chain adjuster. pasenger side lost pressure and was letting the chain slap. it sounded exactly like a lifter tick. went ahead and changed both good luck.....
Try to see if you can tell if its coming from the bottom of the motor or the top end. These motors don't have lifters like old pushrod motors.
Do you have a lack of performance, or check engine light, or any smoke on startup or when the noise starts? Could be just a bad/noisy fuel injector (most likely with so few miles)
