460 heads

I keep running into one thing after another. I was planning on replacing the stock manifolds for a set of l&l headers to get rid of that annoying tick tick tick. I was doing some looking and found 3 broken bolts on the heads. I unfortunaly also found a stripped out hole and an hole that the side of it has been broken out of. I am thinking these heads will never seal off and I will have to replace the heads to get a quiet motor.I am not sure what kind of head I have now but It is stock I am guessing. It is a 86 f-350. I was thinking of maybe going with some higher compression heads to add some more power while I was at it. I am getting into unknown territory for me as far as what to get. Any suggestions. what do you guys need to know from me to make a good choise. I am not looking for 500 hp. I want depenable power with no overheating problems. Well that is enough for now any ideas???? I was looking on ebay at a set what about these auction # 220118665576

You need to find out what your current Combustion Chamber size is in the '86 heads. The D3VE's will be around 95cc's from what I can gather...we had those, but picked up a set of D0VE heads with the smaller combustion chambers (around 75cc) to raise compression ratio.

if your 86 is stock itll have the same heads as the ones on ebay, so no change in performance, but theyre reliable and a simple bolt-on

thanks Darrin a simple bolt on is what I want can you recommend a step up in performance if there is such a thing. I am not going to a different cam I just want to change the heads and be done with it. This is not a hot rod truck I use it to pull my camper and boat but if I got to spend the money wouldn't mind a little more kick for the buck. thanks Scott

well... if you want better performance but are still pretty low budget, you could get some d0ve heads and rebuild them... but then youre running premium gas and minimal timing (distributor recurve). they will work fine otherwise.
