Hi all. I was wondering if I was using a dangerous combination of oil in my PSD. I am running Rotella T 15w-40 (which I have read on here is being great oil) and 2 quarts of Lucas oil stabilizer. It says on the bottle to use one quart of Lucas per 4 quarts of motor oil. Now if the 7.3L holds 15 quarts, and I put 2 quarts of Lucas in, I am still one quart shy of being diluted per their instructions. I was wondering if using ANY Lucas oil additive can harm the engine. The injectors and HPOP are my concern. I just want to make sure I am helping it instead of hurting it. Thanks!
I read the "Bob the Motor Guy" site. I now know that running Lucas oil is bad, but anyone think it is bad enough to drain the oil NOW and fill it with straight oil, or is it good enough for the next 5K miles?? I JUST did an oil change and now have 1k miles on it. Also, amiller93, what is CI-4 and CJ-4 rated oil?? I have never heard of such ratings. What do they mean? Is the Rotella T a one of these oils? Is Rotella T the BEST oil for a PSD?? If there is one thing I will never skip out on is my vehicle. I will treat it good, and it treats me good in return. Thanks again!!!
That is the API rating that Ford specs and Rotella is one of them, Chevron Delo 400 is another good one, Both have given excellent numbers on used oil analysis.
Its not going to effect engine lube as much as the HPO system that drives the injectors. If you notice the truck lagging on acceleration or skipping or stalling that would be a sign it "needs" to come out now. Oil additive's in general are not good for the powerstroke due to the high pressures seen in the HPO system (500psi - 3000psi). If it were mine I would dump the oil and not risk damaging an injector.
