Insulation

Anyone ever thought of insulating the roof somehow? I had taken down the headliner recently and wow! There's an extreme amount of heat up there! Seems like Ford should have done this, due to the amount of square footage... I'm sure the interior temp would drop a little.

Ford probably figured it was more then heavy enough already! That would be a fairly good amount of weight youd be adding to an already heavy truck. Probably something with the GVWR.

yeah, thats why the gas tank is only a 44 gal... apparently, within that class, you can't have any bigger than a 45 gal tank, so maybe its a similar thing

Or maybe thats giving them too much credit and the ford designers are just lazy

So insulation weighs 50lbs? I'm thinking of buying the same material that would go underneath the carpet (reflective looking thin stuff). I've seen it on those car/truck shows that run on Sundays. New stuff, pretty thin.

Foam insulation could be used without a huge gain in extra weight.

go to a good stereo shop and they have dynamat. its expensive, but well worth it. i spent about $600 on the stuff for mine. i did the roof, floor, door panels, 1/4 panels, and barn doors. it's not complete coverage, but it's not supposed to be. it makes the truck ride quieter, but i cant tell if there are any climate issues with it. they do make a heat resistant covering too. DYNAMAT, its the best. not the other cheap stuff.

When we did out install we did three layers of Dynoextreme mat everywhere and when we meausured the interior cabin it was on average of 62.3dB. To give you a reference, a Mercedes is roughly 74.2 and the quitest. Plus it keeps the truck alot cooler in the summer.

I put up three pieces of dynamat extreme and two pieces of tacmat. I am in a Crew Cab superduty, and I believe it has cut back on the heat. I don't think I would spend the money to put up dynamat extreme over the whole top, the tacmat is much cheaper and should do the job just fine.
