I've ridden in one I don't like to see where I've been. They use the transaxle because they were to lazy to put a long drive shaft and modifie the rear/front for a normal axle. And there are Ford truck like This out there.

huh? Thought of moulding some sheetmetal to fit, and welding it? Makes it look as if they just bolted two bodies to the same frame, and thats it (which is admittedly what they did), but at least take the time and effort to give it a smooth, professional finish...

They had the right idea doing it the way they did. If they used sheetmetal to cover up the gap, when the frame flexed, the sheetmetal would have ripped, or buckled under the pressure.
We've all seen how the bed and the cab move in relation to each other...same idea here...
