<TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">I have had my 2001 KR for 6 months now, and want to tow a travel trailer with it. The trailer I want shows a dry weight of 6786#. My truck has the 5.4 & automatic, but not the factory towing package.
Is this going to work OK? Or is it just too much?
What would be the best hitch set up?
I've had a motorhome in the past, so I'm new to this towing thing.
Any help will be appreciated.

You're gonna be right at the max or over the towing capacity on your truck with that trailer, and with a minimal size or no trans oil cooler-you're gonna ruin the trans trying it. You're also risking overheating-the tow package equipped trucks have a thicker radiator with 2 rows to dissipate heat created when towing.

run a little thicker oil like 10w30 syn and put a nice size tranny cooler on it. and you might up grade to electric fans and have a switch to over ride the senser so when you are towing you can leave the fans on the whole time.
Summer time 95 degree heat and above would probably make it pretty hard on it even with coolers, unless you really overhaul lcooling components like ajbeiler suggested. If it is high mileage on that tranny, I wouldn't do it no matter what, because even with coolers, that will probably wear it out pretty quick.
