My Daddy Always Said ...

"If it ain't broke don't fix it."

Well what if something like the fuel gauge and the temp gauge was broken and you wanted to fix it? But after you pulled out the dash now your blinker, oil light, and gen light don't come on.

But and a nice but the gen light comes on if the car stales. So it makes me think it's more than just a ground.

I don't know if pics will help but I know you guys can:

Usually the quickest way to check a temp gauge or fuel gauge is to take a jumper wire and short the wire to ground at that particular sending unit. If the guage pegs on the high side then you know the guage and wiring are ok and the problem is with the sending unit. If not then it could be all the above. This would be with the switch on BTW. Not sure about why stuff doesn't work just cuz you pulled the dash out. Loose connections maybe? 45 yr old wires maybe? Lots of possibilities. Not running the original guages in mine so can't help much.

First try pulling off all the connectors and burnishing them. When you reconnect, you might well get them back... this stuff is OLD and it gets corroded.

Are there any simple wireing harnesses out there. The kind that are as simple as installing a stereo?

EzWire is a good one all color coded. And marked about every 5 inches or so. I would check the wires at the tank on the sending unit to see if they are corroded first. If they quit after you pulled the dash unit out could be a ground problem. Good luck some times it's easier to rewire something than trace it. ............RUSTY

I've seen a number of times that gauges with sending units won't work because someone put teflon tape on the threads to make sure it wouldn't leak...

But why would my other lights not work because I moved my dash? I'm so lost what to do about getting my blinkers and oil light to work again. Would a test light help that? And also behind the dash their seems to be a Solenoid with two wires coming out the bottom and the upper part attatched to the top of my dash.

Is that my ground?
