I'm right at the place where I need to spend the bucks to get all new bushings, pins, etc to renew all the springs on my F1. I've looked into the prices at most of the well known websites, but figure I might be missing out on the best deals somewhere. For those of you that have done this already, where did you find the best prices and products for this work? Also have any of you used the polyfilm spring liner material I see from a couple of sources? I want to use something to increase the spring flex, and to cut down on the squeaks.
I got all my pins and bushings for my 48 F2 @ NPD trouble is that I had to take everything to a machine shop to hone all the bushings out so the pins would fit I wasnt very happy
I'm hearing from several places (different vehicle forums) that the urethane bushings that would seem to be bulletproof and last forever, in fact don't stand up to heat or age very well. It is really surprising to me, and I had figured to use them for my F-1's fronts, but now I'm sticking with stock. Part of this is that there appear to be several different qualities of urethane.
That said, I am also sticking with someone reputable and that will likely be Dennis Carpenter. There is a lot more than just "rubber" in the compounds, and quality of much of the Asian stuff is suspect. Wrong durometer (stiffness), poor resistance to oils, etc. I intend to check out what NAPA is offering, too, as they have a line of stuff for suspensions that is better than average. Plus I like to support them! They are two blocks from my house.
