351M - Rebuild or Replace
A 400 can be made to be an excellent performer that can hang with the best of them. I stuck less than 1k into mine and have over 300 ponies, easy. The 400's just get a bad rap because of the time that they came out (70's and gas shortages), and Ford trying to get it to do something that it wasn't initally designed for (milage and emissions). If the 400 came out in the mid 60's it would probably have an excellent reputation.
Your truck's already set up to accept a 400, so stuff one in there and call it a day.
