The Visconic fan on the 6.0 is electrically controlled by the PCM based on several varibles input to the PCM by numerous sensors on the engine. It gets louder under greater load and cycles on and off as the PCM deems necessary. First time you hear it you will swear the engine is coming through the hood.

FWIW, I had the recall sticker put onthe degas bottle, however the tech did not lower the coolant level. I lowered it to 1/4" visable in the front nearest the cap, and have had no more puking issues since.
