Looking at a diablo deltal chip for my 2000 excursion V10. Mods include k/n fipk, throttle body spacer, bbk 65mm throttle body, flowmaster 40 duel out, 6" skyjacker lift, 37" goodyear gsa. Would you suggest the 2 program or the 3 program delta chip? Do the mods need the extra for the custom chip?
Ok duh, should of looked in the question section. I do have one question about the 87 oct performance side of the 2 program chip. What does it really do? (tranny, timing, fuel mixture?)
Does the custom chip do any changes for tire size?
The 87 oct program is pretty much going to do everything the high octane side does (shift points, line pressue, etc.) except the timing curves will not be as advanced nor will the fuel mixture be leaned (the advance is where most of the horsepower comes from). We can program the chip for most tire size changes.
Ken,
I'm not too edumacated on the chip scene. My 2k Excursion V-10 has a few intake/output mods, but feels a bit slothful and downshifts quite a bit on freeway grades where my honda doesn't. Would a chip help, and if so, which one?
I tow 8k rarely. I go offroad with about 1600 lbs of gear often.
Yes, a chip will help with this. A common complaint about Fords is the transmission. Not only do they give you mushy shifts, they also treat overdrive like a regular gear. This causes the truck to go into overdrive too soon, result in too much upshifting and downshifting. Not only will the chip give more power to hold the gear the truck is in, it also adjusts the shift points up so there is less hunting for gears. You'll be especially pleased with the improved shift speed while towing and will notice it more then when unloaded.
All right Ken,
I received the SuperChips tuner and reprogrammed using the SC default program. So far I really like the lower end shifting control. On the freeway I haven't noticed much difference. I probably need to play with the shift points for 3rd and 4th gears.
One problem, though. My truck is apparently one of those that the SC tuner doesn't recognize, therefore can't adjust for gear/tire changes. At this point, would I be better off just getting a programmed chip for less cash? What got my wife excited about the tuner was the speedo correction, but now I have nothing to sell HER
Thanks,:-(
If the tuner can't change your tire/gear size for your code, then Superchips won't be able to do it with a chip (if they could, they'd do it with the tuner too since it uses the same code). If this is the case, a dealer can adjust it. Also, a Superchips chip with custom code will cost more than a tuner.

Ford dealer.

No. Just letting you know that a custom Superchips module ain't cheap these days. They doubled their custom fees on February 14th, 2002 (and quadrupled them for Supercharger applications!).
No. If Superchips can't change the speedo odds high Diablo can't either and visa versa. You'll need a Ford dealer to do it. In some cases only the shift points can be changed to compensate and the speedo is corrected externally to the computer.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Sep-02 AT 12:25 PM (EST)]Bummer. At least I have shifts that make you say "Cool!" and a better sounding and quicker launch from start
Any chance these ECU codes will become available to Superchips in the future? Or am I stuck with this anomalous ECU?
