The ABS light is on on my 93 f150. It doesnt stay on all the time but like every other time I start it up. When I press on the brake pedal when driving the pedal kind of thumps repeatedly, almost like really badly worped rotors. Any ideas on what my problem could be. Ill try and have the codes pulled but until then I just need some ideas to play with.
I don't have any ideas, but my ABS light is also on in my truck. It started intermittant like yours, but now is always on. I'm just bumping your post because I'm interested in hearing what people have to say!
My 87 F150 did that, so I just put it in reverse and made about 15 stops, and it quit. I dunno if the backwards stopping did anything or it was just a coincidence, but I would try it since it is simple and free.
The "backing up" trick is not coincidental. If the rear brakes are out of adjustment, the RABS unit will detect an intermittent mechanical failure and will flash a code. Backing up and braking in reverse repeatedly will cause the brakes to automatically readjust - clearing the code. There is a pigtail next to the brake pedal (orange and black wire) that you can ground to the chasis to get the abs light to flash the codes.
If this doesn't fix it, you should pull the codes. The "thumping" probably is not an adjustment problem. You may need to dig a little deeper to fix your brakes. Let us know when, how it's happening. Is it coming from the back or front. does the steering wheel move when you brake?
It doesnt pull or anything the thumping is not an audible sound you can just feel it in the pedal. It almost seems like its the abs activating when it shouldnt. And it does it any time I brake.
Ive been going through and updating my posts. I solved my ABS problem, well it wasnt a problem so much. The tabs that the plug that plugs into the master cylinder resevour go onto were corroded. It must have been reading that there was no fluid in the resevour. I replaced the resevour with one from the junkyard and the light went out. The thumping was just worped front brake rotors.
