Is BG just BS?

Recently I replaced the ACT sensor in my truck. The old one was coated in black sludge. So after seeing the condition of my intakes insides I got a BG intake kit and ran it. Fifteen for the IV kit and almost thirty for the can of stuff. Aside from needing to goose the throttle a few times I saw nothing to indicate that the "cleaning agent" was doing anything. I was expecting clouds of black soot to come spewing from the tailpipe, or at least some grey ones. What I saw was nothing at all, and during the follow up test drive the truck felt exactally the same. No improvement in performance at all.
My question is......Has anyone here found a additive or cleaner that actually seemed to make a difference? If you have I would like to know what it is so I can try it.

I've heard great things about seafoam, but if your intake is in that bad of shape, I'd have it cleaned at a machine shop. And then find out why it got so bad.

I'm in the process of tearing down my bronco (351) and I've used a couple cans of seafoam. The inside of this thing is really clean! I don't know how it was before I did it, but the thing smoked really good, and it seemed to run and Idle alot better than before.

There's a couple ways to do it, running it in the oil, in the gas, but I ran mine through the vacuum lines. All I did was unhook the brake booster vacuum and pushed the can around it. I let the motor run and set the can of seafoam can in the engine compartment. I then revved the motor up the motor until the engine died on it's own. I then let it set overnight, and started it up in the morning. It really smoked, but once it quit smoking I took it out and rode on it pretty hard until all the smoking quit while driving. It seemed to run a whole lot better (that is until I lost all compression in one of my cylinders). Try it out, it should run a heck of alot better.

Any chance you run an aftermarket air filter or someone ran a clogged one for too long? I recently did the seafoam and it may have helped some...

A garaged I used to work at used several different versions of the BG intake cleaner. We sold the service for over 100 dollars which also included cleaning the throttle body. I NEVER sold the bg service, I thought the throttle body cleaning did make a difference but not the intake cleaner(mostly carbon build up caused a sticky throttle), I made sure to try it on my truck which should have been a perfect canidate and saw no difference. I could not justify my cost of the product which was 20 something bucks so there was no way I could justify my customers spending 100 plus. Apparently they didn't like that to much.... seafoam may be your best bet tho.

Thank you all for the Sea Foam recommendation. Today I put a can in the gas, 1/2 a can in the crank case, and ran the other 1/2 straight into the throttle body. James Bond would have been proud of the smoke screen my truck made. I haven't driven it yet but I can feel a difference just in the idle and how it revs. Its nice to find a product that actually does what it claims to do and not pay an arm and a leg for it. I'm definitely going to keep a few cans of it in the garage. Thanks again!
