Unhappy Parking/E brake D60 1975 Highboy

Can anyone explain or does anyone have a decent picture of the rear parking brake cables and where/how they go into the backing plate?

I put new rear cables on both sides (old ones were torn off by the PO) and the new ones
go into the backing plate at a 90 degree angle, but the parking brake arm in the hub is at an angle where it is causing the cable to bind up and it is hard to set and release the brake...

It almost seems like they should go into the backing plate at a slight angle - I'm thinking there may have been an adapter??

help?

All of mine went in at an angle. Like you have noticed, if the cable tries to pull at right angles, it just binds up. My 9" was the only one I ever spent any timing looking at. The steel wrapped lines have a bracket/base that sets the angle.

Hmmm, that makes me think I may have gotten the wrong (or may be missing a) part. Well, I guess I need to go back and see if any of the cables have an angled end or maybe even order the angled part from the dealer or BOTP. Thanks for the reply!

I just went out and looked at mine, they do go in at a 45 degree angle.. I will have to look at it tommorow to see if I can tell if it is a bracket or what, the cable was straight in to something so you might be missing a part. hope that helps and I will look tommorow when there is some more light.. can't seem to find a flashlight right now...

Look here. http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us...rInfoPages.htm
I got my parking brake cables from greensales. Number Dummy was good enough to dig up a part number for me, but mines a Supercab and the cables are NLA.

Thanks tractorman that's a nice diagram. I see the image #4 and the backing plate is angled where the cable goes into the drum. My 75 is flat on the backing plate...so the cable goes in straight. Don't know what the heck is up with that, but there must be some part I am missing or something - maybe I need the correct cable. Any other thoughts?

Edit: maybe I'll take a picture so you all can see what I have...

Ok, well I spoke to the parts dept at my dealership - the part # is D5TZ2A635C for both rear brake cables. Anybody know if there is a year specific cable for 1975? The parts guy seemed to implicate that there was. Oh, and it is a non-available part...so anybody know where/if I can get these parts?

Try Greensales. Mine were NLA too but they had them. You have the wrong cables. My backing plate is flat too. The cable has a plastic guide nipple to orient it properly in the backing plate.

I may have found the part I need:

http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...pe=686&PTSet=A

This is suggested to fit the F350, but I see the part at the end of the cable that looks like it will make the cable go in at an angle like I need. I will post the results after I get them!

Update:

Well, the parking brake cable has the correct angled end and fits perfectly...but the housing is just a few inches short, so it won't work. Anybody else have a source for a longer cable (besides greensales)?

D5TZ2A635C is the Ford part#...

and BTW the cables I purchased locally are priced @ $30.00 and I need both left and right. I would love to support GS, but I think the price is a little high.

Try Y2K Ford, http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?siteid=214072 a forum sponsor. They also, have NOS or can search for it from dealers around the country although the pricing may be close to what GS is asking if they can find it. Good luck.
