So I was changing the headlights in my 2000 Ranger today and I accidentally broke off the tabs on the wiring harness that holds the harness to the bulb (the passenger side). While it feels like it will still require a decent tug to get the harness out, I do not want to have to be constantly wondering if I am “winking” at people. Any suggestions as to where I can get a new connector? Or perhaps there is something to do to keep the current one snug and secure?
Thanks in advance and I apologize if this question was already posted somewhere else.
Same exact thing happened to me. I never thought much about it since like you I found it took quite a tug to pull it off still. So as mine currently sits, its still as broke as it originally was. But it if bothers you that much you can put a bad of silicone on it. It will stick well enough to keep secure yet pull right off when you want it to.
You could always visit a junkyard and snip one off of another vehicle. Or you can usually buy the pigtail from the dealership.. they are usually pretty cheap. The new ones usually come with three wires of the same color, so snip the wires one at a time.
I highly recommend soldering the wires, rather than crimping.. get some corrosion down in your crimp connection, and you WILL be winking at people.
