5Spd Conversion tips?
I've got a 1976 LWB F100, which I recently had upgraded from a 302C to a 351C (runs LPG and unleaded.)
It currently has a 4spd New Venture manual gearbox, which I'd like to replace with a ZF 5spd from a later truck as I'd like the OD gear to keep revs down on the highway, but keep the 1st granny gear for towing (extended double horses float and car trailer.) These gearboxes very hard to find here in Australia, and are hideously expensive when they are available. I'm looking to import a small block compatable ZF for a good price, and even with freight across the Pacific it'll still be a 1/3 of the cost of sourcing one locally.
I'm just wondering what else I will need to get this box bolted up to my truck? I understand the driveshaft will need modification. I think I also need the matching slave cylinder and line, and of course a 5spd clutch. Shifter as well I think?
I did a bit of search and found this conversion has mostly been done with big block engined trucks, so if anyone has done with with a small block like mine I'd appreciate any advice!
cheers
Mark

I know in the M5 there is. You will need lots of clutch related parts . and make a peddle to clutch cylinder shaft .
Good luck LOST
Is the need for clutch parts due to my truck having a mechanical clutch, and the later trucks having a hydraulic clutch? What year did Ford trucks in the US start using those?
Also, any idea on the rough weight of a ZF 5 speed?
