Another Tach Install Question

Just got a new sunpro 2 for my ranger. She's a 95 2.3 short bed 2 wheel drive. She's my beater, she's clean but it was shipped fron the factory without a tach. Couldn't take it hence forth the purchase. Anyways the tan/yellow wire that supposed to be there is not or at least I can't find it. Everything else is installed and working. Could it be another color? Someone help me out. Thanks

What I did was find the wire that lead to the negative side of the coil and follow it in its route through the engine bay. Mine went from the coil, foreward to go under the intake tube, across to near power distribution box where it splits into two. One of the wires led to behind the drivers side headlight into some sort of little box there, and the other led straight to the main wire harness that goes through the firewall. I tapped into it just before it entered the firewall since it was going to be a royal PITA to tap into it under the dash. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the knowledge but I can't seem to find that freakin yellow and tan wire no where. The ECM under the passenger side dash does not contain that wire color combo. I'm gonna try the coils but I only see three wires coming off of each, no yellow/ tan combo. I found one wire that has the right color combo but its behind the radio on the left hand side (black box), looks like it runs to the fuse box. I'm thinking that since this truck didn't come from the factory with a tach they may have left the Y/B wire off the main harness. Who Knows!! Any more helpfull pointer send em my way.

Finally found it and yes it was tan and yellow. I found it on the drivers side in the engine bay close to the fuse box in the big bundle of wires coming from the back. There were actaully 2 tan and yellow wires. I just picked one and got lucky. Thanks again for the helpful info.

The help is not a problem! Especially since I had just gone through the same thing a week ago. Its good to hear someone gained off of my experience.

Something I always wondered about those 2.3's since they're double plug motors: Do they have a single distributer cap like for a v8, or is it 2 different caps? If it's 2 different caps that would be why you have 2 of the yellow/tan wires.

That would explain the two tan/yellow wires. I have the ignition coils. That would be jacked up to have 2 distributor caps. 2.3's are odd motors but there easy to work on and they run forever.
