I got a 5.8 in a '95 ('96 motor) 4x4. i get the cel off and on. ran the codes and the main code was 552 Air management 1 circuit failure.
I figure I have a air leak so I did a visual check on all the small lines and didn't find anything. its almost impossible to find slits in the plastic hoses. truck idles ok but doesn't seem to get as good mpg.
are there little solenoids or switchs that could be bad?
Not sure, but the ether test is a good idea. If you spray a Small amount of ether around the vacuum hoses, the idle will tach up when you hit a line that is leaking. The vacuum sucks the ether into the intake, and the extra fuel overrides the engine management and revs the engine. Basically use small shots of the stuff for and wait a couple seconds between each shot. Starter fluid is what I use, but other ethers are available. I've heard of this being done with propane as well, but I'm not familiar with the exact method.
