On a 1952 Ford F-1 that is still 6 volt system and has a positive ground system which side of the battery does the ground go?When I got the truck it was hooked to the negative side and I was told that was backwards,so I switched it around. The truck actually cranked and ran either way!Which is the right way? Thanks,Russell
If you're positive it's a positive ground system, then the ground wire should be on the POSITIVE battery post.
I saw a kid once with a 62 Falcon.. negative ground system. He replaced the battery and wired it "backwards" because he didn't know any better (he had purchased a reverse terminal battery).. the car still started and ran, but burned up the voltage regulator, and oddly enough.. the headlight switch.. oh yeah.. and his radio.
Thanks for the responce.I think the voltage regulator is fryed. The gauge does go to the charge side very much when I rev it up!I did notice that it was discharging when the battery was hooked up backwards.
Measure the voltage on the battery with the engine off, and then with the engine running. If it's charging, the voltage will be higher on the battery with the engine running.
