Quick ATF question

I did my first refill on the E4OD Saturday and I was really surprised by the smell of the old fluid. The stuff that came out had a chlorine odor. It smelled just like an open bleach bottle. Can someone tell me if this is normal? The old fluid was bright read and clear.

Also, I ran some Seafoam trans tune in the old fluid for a 10 mile trip before dropping the pan. The bottle said to do a 5 mile run but even 10 felt useless. How long would you recommend for a mild solvent flush like that?

Hopefully with the seafoam flush, real DexIII/Merc fluid and a bottle of lubeguard red I can put the neck brace back in the attic.

That's odd. I never smelled chlorine when I change the fluid in any of my trannies since the 70s. Always a nice chemicaly oily smell.

Wild guess is maybe someone used one of those "cure in a bottle" oil boosters like Prolong. Some of those boosters use something like chlorine so I have read. Maybe someone put ATF booster in there with similar chemicals as the snake oils.

Ah, reading your post again, looks like you put in seafoam, maybe this stuff has chlorine compounds?

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson
