Did non-chrome '66 F100 grilles come all white or with black in the middle (behind the headlights, etc.)? I had never seen the two color version until recently and was wondering if that was how they came.

The 61/66 F100/1000 steel grilles were all painted white * on new trucks. When bought over the parts counter as a replacement part, they were in red primer.
* Trucks sold for specific fleet sales had grilles painted to the customers wishes. Examples: School busses had yellow grilles, Fire Department grilles were red, Forestry Service grilles were green, USAF grilles were dark blue, etc.

As I remember the unit itself was painted just one color. I am parting out a 66 F350 with chrome grill. Custom cab. If ya need anything let me know in a PM.
the 65 and 66 as I recall had the black around the headlights...I know the 65s had black in a cpl other smaller areasbetween the upper and lower edges and the agg crate part of the pattern...I think 66 had the same layout on the black...
To help with the mass confusion; all standard cab steel grilles from factory for F100's as Number Dummy mention are solid colors ie. white; the only version that had black painted portion's where the chrome style grilles. But over time and dealer options you never know. The head light bezel retainer which adjust the headlight angle where black. I hope this helps
