there are 2 coolant temp sensors that was just talked about a few posts back. try this link.

Now that you mentioned it, I noticed that my gauge (94 F150 4.9L 6cylinder) is hanging just below that first line of the normal range, after driving about 28 miles to work. I read through the threads of the link that were given: I guess the first thing is to check for corrosion (or bad connections) around the sensor; changing the sensor would be the next thing to do if that's not it.
Also a buddy of mine mentioned a possible problem with the thermostat (maybe it's sticking open). That would absolutely be the last thing I'd check (replace).
