I have a 97 F150. I have been getting a whistling or high pitched churpping sound when moving. It seems to decrease with the speed of the trans. not the motor. Like if Im coming to a stop light. I thought maybe a wheel bearing but I cant pin point where its coming from. Any ideas? Thanks Greg
Jack up the rear and have someone sit inside with the engine running and put it in drive. Walk around the truck and pin drown were the sound is coming from.

first off welcome to FTE and make sure you put it on jack stands when your doing this i know it sounds idiotic but people make the mistake of not doin it all the time
I agree, Sounds like a dried up u-joint, If it is squeaking grease will only mask the problem, better off to throw a new set in instead of risking the driveshaft falling out. I had one start squeaking and only minutes later it broke and took my driveshaft out with it.
The easiest way to tell is to jack your truck up and put it on stands then check the u-joints for play, or pull the driveshaft out and check for any binding or stiffness. I personaly would not recomend being underneath the truck while in gear, thats just me though.
I beleive i have the same sound that you are talking about, I changed the u-joints, repacked the front wheel bearings, checked the emergency brakes and all pads. I still have not found it. Let me ask you if the sound is more often heard after you have been driving for a while and things are heated up?
I had this sound also, I put the truck up on jack stands and put it in gear but it would not make the nouse unless I applied the brakes while on the throttle.
Thought it was the rear brakes but it did end up being the u-joints. had to cut the cross with a torch and then beat the caps out with an air hammer.
The application of the brakes put some load on the u-joints whlie on stands.
