I have an 05 screw that was purchased in 10/05 my exterior plastic pieces bed rails, door handles and windshield cowl are fading.I have tried using Mothers back to black and it works well but I have to keep up with it and when it rains it runs on to the paint. I have two questions 1. Do you guys think this is something that should be covered under warranty? I have had the truck just over 18 months and this is already an issue. 2. Is there another product that I can use that will last longer than a week or two and not run all over the paint? I wash my truck once a week and quick detail atleast once between washing so I keep up with the exterior of the truck and this is really driving me crazy. Thanks for the help.
I've used several Mothers products over the years and some of them are amongst my favorites but Back To Black is garbage. It initially will turn trim black but the trim will turn white or whiter within a week or so.
I have a few pics that I took for a detailing forum(yes I'm a detailing fool)
of my trim and window seals after using Vinylex Wipes on them. The wipes work great on the mirrors, handles and bed rails.
Yesterday I bought a bottle of Vinylex spray. It will help on the bedrails to have a little more product to work with than the wipes provide.Around here Vinylex is available at Pepboys and Aubuchon Hardware. It leaves a nice sheen and isn't greasy.
Maybe whatever cleaner you are using to wash the truck, is expediting the trim wear?
I have been using meguiars gold class for cleaner. Thanks NASSTY I will try the Vinylex on the truck. The Turtle Wax Ice I was going to buy for the next wax and I will try it on the plastic as well. Thanks
i would try turtle wax ice it does real well on the black trim parts and won't run. they also offer a full line of ice prods. including a liquid clay bar (no more 4 hour clay-bar/wax jobs).

Maybe I will step up the next wax. I just waxed last week. My friend had a detail shop and he told me that a clay bar on a newer truck is not necessary. He also said that he is skeptical of products that make a job easier than the original.
