C6 linkage problem

Hello,

I know this is better sent to the transmission thread, but I know how experienced a group this is and hope the moderator won't move me.

I watched Greg Biffle drive down pit road from third in the Busch race today for the millionth time (grr &()^&*%*(!!!), promptly turned off the TV and thought I'd take my frustrations out with some soothing wrenching. I have a B&M valvebody kit that's been in the garage for a year or so and dropped my pan and valvebody to install it. I was pleased with how smoothly it went, I carefully cleaned everything, but all the *****, springs and goodies back in place and reinstalled it. After filling the pan, I started it and the linkage felt goofy. It only engages reverse and won't go to first gear.

I assume that the hook that hangs in the transmission over the valvebody didn't get installed in the right spot. Could somebody give me an idea as to what I probably did and how to right it? I'm 99.99% positive that the valvebody/filter/separator plate assembly is perfectly assembled and that my woes began when I put that assembly back in the transmission.

As always, thanks in advance.

Bob

I don't know the answer, but, was the the transpak from b&m? If so, what level did you reprogram your valvebody for? I have the tanspak for my c6 that's been sitting for quite some time, just didn't get around to installing it yet, but since it's summer now it would be one more box to clear off my bench. If you get a work around or find a mistake please post it for others, including myself, for something to watch out for.

It was the cheaper of their offerings, just the separator plate, check ball, plug, drill bits and gaskets. I did the RV/tow option. I really don't think it was the kit's fault. I'll drop the pan in a while and let you know what I find out.

Installer error, I just missed the linkage where it meets the valve body. Back on the road again.

Better. It used to be quick and mushy for my taste. It holds the gear a bit longer than before, the 1-2 is much firmer than before and the 2-3 is just a little firmer. Not bad for $29.95 (it's just the shift improver kit) and a couple of hours work. I don't know how much more your kit includes, but others might have experience with it. I think this one doesn't give me full control of downshifts, just firms things up.

Good luck,

Bob

Happen to read your post on the shift kit, interesting. My 77 had a real bad dent on the trans pan. I had thought about the kit you refered to but did not bother, she shifted fine for my driving. What I did install was the B&M finned trans pan. Hold's about 3 extra quart's and was an easy install.

Good move, the extra quarts can't hurt, but it's the drain plug I envy on that pan you installed. I've dropped mine 4 or 5 times the hard way and still haven't had the sense to put in a decent pan. This should be the last time I peek in there for a while!
