brake problem

I have a 78 f250 4x4.... the brakes take alot of pushing to stop the truck, more than it should... The pedal does not come back after pressing it either.... My guess is that I have a brake leak somewhere... I filled the reservior full to see if any is missing in a few weeks... I am pretty sure all lines are old... Is this what you guys think or something else?

Pedal not comming back up is prob mc problem. Old brake hoses can swell when the pedal is pushed reducing braking too. I did everthing on my 77 with hoses, MC, calipers, roters, wheel cyls, drums, shoes, pads and new wheel bearings and seals in the front for $300 after I got the core deposits back. It really made a huge difference and now I don't think about that going down the road. If you start replacing parts, pump all the wheels till the fluid runs clear before you change the parts. After 30 years that stuff gets strange and you would be supprised how much is in the lines.

look at the back of the master cyl. where it meets the booster. if you see any liquid, the master is leaking. i had a booster go bad and would keep the pedal down. i could pull the pedal back up. take it off and tip over if the master leaked inside you can drain it, but it will still be bad. i took a cup of fluid out of mine. lock the pedal and jack each wheel, and spin to see if you have a one wheel problem. good luck.
