I have a 94 Ford dually F250 Turbo Super Cab 7.3L V8. I put a fuel filter, changed the oil and filter, then put it on the diagnostic machine and as far as they could tell ever thang looked good. So here's the problem. Sometimes I can run my beast for miles and other times just a couple miles and he just shuts down. No chugging or sputtering, no warning at all. It acts like the ignition was turned off. Sometimes it fires right back up and other times I have to leave it only for at least a half hour or more. Any thoughts or suggestions with this little bit of info. Thanks.
The usual...the ignition module and/or the pickup coil in the dizzy. The module may be mounted to the dizzy with Torx headed screws. This module is a POS and has been a PITA since 1983.
First off, welcome to FTE! Next, the bigger question is, is it a 94, or a 94.5? If it is a 94.5, It should say "Direct Injection" on the black cover on the top of the engine(assuming it is a diesel). If it does, I would say it sounds more like the CPS starting to go out, either that, or a wiring harness in the valve cover. Those are the two most common causes for the symptoms you describe.
I just wanted to say thanks. I have been told things like I need to drop the dual tanks and clean them out to I need a whole new engine. I love my truck, but I ain't about to fill somebody elses pocket up with needless repairs.
