Has anyone gave thought on replacing the front windshield with plexiglass? Didn't take much for a friend to throw up an arm and bust my front windshield on my last outing. Now I've considered plexiglass but thought I'd ask advice first. Would scratches be a problem? Anyone know the thickness of the original glass? I would like to keep what I have in until I find a replacement.
the problem with plexiglass is optical clarity. it will not be easy to see through as it expands and contracts and flexes.
it will also scratch easily, and if it gets hit when real cold, it will probably break.
what you might try is finding some airplane glass. i saw this used on a street rod. it was cut to fit, and is actually some composite material.
Unless this is a trail only rig I.E trailered to and from the trail it's highly illegal and dangerous to use anything but automotive glass as a front windshield. Windshields are safty coated to prevent the glass from turning your face into ground beef in the event of an accident. The windsild will shatter but it will keep it's form and stay intact. Unless of coruse something actually goes through the glass, even then the whole window doesn't fly into tiny pieces.
