I remember looking them up for some reason the other day. They are different according to the parts store.

Yeah, somebody else told me they are different, I wonder why??? To me it looks like a simple sending unit, no filter or fuel pump attached to the unit...

The Ford 1980/89 truck parts catalog, as I told you earlier (I'm now reduced to somebody ) shows different part numbers for diesel sending units, as opposed to gassers. The catalog also states that the senders are engine specific: 6.9 senders are not the same part number as 7.3's. The senders from 1988 and later are different part numbers than the 1987 and earlier senders. I'm just the messenger, typing what the parts catalog states. I've been retired for 10 years, so I haven't seen any senders since 1997.

No offense Bill, couldn't think of your user name when I posted that, sorry....Since they have different part numbers, then I'd presume there is something different about them????? Just makes it harder to get if there is no interhcnage for them, ya know???

Well, if I remember correctly, the diesels have a fuel return, so that might be an extra pipe on the sender that the regular carb units don't have. The fuel injected senders have a return pipe, but they usually have a pump in there too.

Also somewhere in the late eighties they changed the sender ohm value, so that is going to create a whole new set of part numbers.
