well got first oil change on my 2007 fx4 off road ranger, the man i bought my truck from the dealer laughed and said it only has 1600 miles?? but i said its been 3 months so they changed it. now i dont drive it much as i want because i use my van for work. should i wait 3000 miles to change it or 3 months??. has 2100 miles now. just wondering if i should wait. june is the time i need to change it again but it says 6100 miles. lol.
Go with 3,000 every time. I can't go 5,000 without changing oil. Grew up on every 3,000 and that's what it will be for me. I know I'm probably wasting money, but who cares?
Unless you don't drive that much in a year - if a year goes by, its time to change the oil even if its synthetic and even if its only got 2000 miles on it.
Yes, I always advise my low-mileage customers to change their oil every 6 months or every 3,000 miles. In all honestly they could probably go a year, but the people who still come for regular oil changes under these conditions are a bit paranoid to begin with, so I've found 6 months is a good medium for them.
