Some of those 80 amp alternators are larger in diameter than the 55/60/70 amp alternators and use different mounting brackets. Before you buy one, you better find out if your present brackets will work. Ask the seller of the alternator what the diameter of the 80 amp alternator is, and measure your old one.

why not upgrade, the benefits are huge especially if you plan on running lights, winch or any other accessories. and running a 2g is silly. they are prone to cause fires etc.
When my factory 80 amp external regulator died I went to a 3G (3rd generation) 130 amp internal 1 wire. It dropped in and other than running a 2Gauge wire and 140A fuse it was painless. Also the 3G was about 3/8 inch shorter in diamiter then the factory unit.
With the extra power output it charges and runs the dump and light bar, strobs without any issue.
