I have a 73' 351W with hooker headers. My C4/C5, whatever you choose to call it, just croked and I see it as an excuse to upgrade to an AOD. My question is, is there one in particular that I should find (4x2, 4x4, a better year, does it matter?). I think I want to stay away from the 96-up AODE's they sound like even more work. Do any of you know of any good sites that show what I would need for this swap. I know I need AD's AOD to Dana 20 adapter, also need to redo my drive shafts. but what about the kick down bar. How does it work on the AOD. also is it possible to use the colum shifter still?? Is there anything thing else I need?? I am going to be tearing this thing apart pretty soon so any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Ryan

As you already know, you need the adapter. On mine I used a '92 Mustang AOD but bought the FPP wide ratio kit. It is a complete kit that gives you a higher numerical 1st gear and is stronger too. You need to get the deep sump pan from Ford(unless you use a truck AOD) and I bought a Len Tech valve body which allows a true manual 1-2-3 shift with a electronic OD shift. I'm using a B&M 2400 RPM convereter(strip master? it's the one with the needle bearings and furnace braised vanes) I'm using a floor mounted shifter but I'm sure the detents on the column shifter should work.
Len Tech in Canada may be the most knowledgable AOD guy in the country and I would call him for more ????
